So I’ve been here for 8 days and having a blast. The weather is so up and down so I never know what to wear and I laughingly brought summer shorts and tank tops and have yet to make use of them. My uniform seems to be jeans, a top and a cardigan with a light jacket for the cooler nights. And it does get cool! And quickly. That sun goes down and it can get pretty darn frigid.
I also made all the wrong shoe choices. Except for my runners. Those seem to be awesome and cause no injury to my feet whatsoever. I now need to find boots, heels and sandals all with the soles of runners. But enough about weather and clothes and shoes. I’m sure you’re all fascinated by this part of my trip. I came here to start getting acquainted with the life of an actor in this city and I’ve been trying to keep busy. I’ve met with some old friends, some industry folks, some new friends and some new fantastic contacts. I was offered work on a movie but it was being shot in Downey and with no real transportation to that part of town, I had to turn down that opportunity. Sigh. So a car will be required upon moving here permanently. Although after chatting with a friend and fellow actress, she assured me she has been able to get to every audition and booking by using public transportation so apparently it can be done. Just not to Downey.
Also went to a casting director workshop at a great spot called GoGoActing in Hollywood. After chatting with a top CD in town, we were given sides and 10 minutes to prep then perform in front of everyone with some feedback. I lucked out and got a scene that required me to burst into tears. So should not have worn mascara. Not a good look in front of 20 plus strangers. But the workshop was great. Why don’t we have this in Toronto?? Hmmm…new business idea….
And then YOU said...
